Hold the phone, film fans! Legendary director Priyadarshan is getting ready to dim the lights on his long and successful career. He recently revealed his plans to step away from filmmaking for good. This comes after he wraps up a couple of exciting upcoming projects.
Priyadarshan has been a big name in the industry for ages. Lately, everyone’s been buzzing about his next films, ‘Haivan’ and ‘Hera Pheri 3’. But it seems these might be his cinematic swan song. In a recent interview, he openly shared his wish to retire after finishing these two movies. He told everyone his plan to step back from making films once ‘Haivan’ and ‘Hera Pheri 3’ are complete.
“Haivan” Kicks Off in Kochi
Right now, Priyadarshan is busy on location. He’s already started filming ‘Haivan’ in the picturesque city of Kochi. Get ready to see a powerful duo on screen in this one. Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are set to star. ‘Haivan’ takes its cues from Priyadarshan’s 2016 hit, ‘Oppam’. However, don’t expect a simple remake. He mentioned that the dialogues and script have been updated with many changes. While working on this film, the director also opened up about his future plans.
Mohanlal Joins for 99th and 100th Films
‘Haivan’ is actually Priyadarshan’s 99th film. And here’s a fun tidbit: Mohanlal, who famously led ‘Oppam’, will make a special cameo appearance in ‘Haivan’. Priyadarshan recently chatted with ‘Onmanorama’, hinting that Mohanlal’s role will be a pleasant surprise for the audience. But wait, there’s more! After ‘Haivan’, he intends to direct his landmark 100th film. And guess who he wants in the lead? None other than Mohanlal himself. The script isn’t quite ready for this big project yet. Still, filming is hoped to start sometime next year.
“I Am Tired,” Says the Director
When asked about his frequent collaborations with Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan’s answer was pretty straightforward: “It’s all about comfort,” he stated. He also has a clear stance on sequels. “I usually don’t just copy my original films with sequels,” he admitted. “That’s not my preferred working style.” Then, he dropped a bit of a bombshell. “After completing these films, I hope I will retire,” he said surprisingly. He added simply, “I am tired.”
