Get ready for more fun, fashion, and maybe a little Roman holiday! The fifth season of Emily in Paris is heading our way this winter, and it looks like Emily Cooper will be trading her croissants for cannolis, at least for a bit.
Netflix recently dropped some exciting news, along with fresh pictures, showing Lily Collins’ character, Emily, embracing life in Italy. We see her taking charge of Agence Grateau Rome. One photo shows Emily enjoying a boat ride. She’s gazing at the water, wearing a cute black and white polka-dot two-piece outfit and matching white sunglasses.
Another image features Emily holding a horse’s reins. She stands beside Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), who is also on horseback and wearing a helmet. There’s also a sweet shot of Emily and Marcello walking together. They share a look, and he has his arm around her shoulders.
The official story for the new season teases some drama. “Just when everything clicks into place, a work idea goes sideways,” the summary explains. “The results bring heartbreak and professional setbacks.” Emily then tries to find stability, holding onto her French lifestyle. But a big secret could hurt one of her closest friendships. As Emily faces these problems honestly, she finds deeper connections, clearer thoughts, and is ready for new chances.
The much-awaited fifth season of Emily in Paris will premiere on December 18. Fans can expect to see many familiar faces. The cast includes Mindy (Ashley Park), Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Julien (Samuel Arnold), Luc (Bruno Gouery), Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Antoine (William Abadie), and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount). Also returning are Genevieve (Thalia Besson), Nico (Paul Forman), Laurent G (Arnaud Binard), Princess Jane (Minnie Driver), Jake (Bryan Greenberg), and Yvette (Michèle Laroque). Of course, Eugenio Franceschini will join the cast as Marcello.
The popular Netflix show started in 2020. It follows Emily as she moves from the United States to France and learns to adapt. By the end of the fourth season, Emily had relocated to Italy. It seemed like she was hoping for a relationship with Marcello.
Many fans wondered if Emily would stay in Italy for good. But the show’s creator, Darren Star, put those worries to rest. In a 2024 interview with Deadline, Star, who is 64, pointed out that Emily “didn’t change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome.”
Star explained that Emily “sometimes works in Rome.” He added that Sylvie’s company has an office there, and Emily is just helping to get it started. “I don’t necessarily think that means a permanent move — in my opinion, it’s definitely not permanent — to Rome,” Star confirmed. “We’re not leaving Paris.”
Even French President Emmanuel Macron weighed in on the show’s location. In a 2024 conversation with Variety, he said he planned to “fight with all his might” to keep the series from changing its main setting. Variety also reported that Emily in Paris will stay in its original location, with only some scenes filmed in Rome.
“I feel like it just expands the show’s universe,” Star told TVLine in 2024. He mentioned that just as Emily gets comfortable in Paris, she’s thrown into another country. “She’s going to experience some cultural differences,” he said. Star also noted that the show would explore cultural differences between the French and Italians. “It’s a whole new world, but that doesn’t mean we’re leaving Paris,” he reassured viewers.
So, mark your calendars! The fifth season of Emily in Paris arrives on December 18.
