Let’s get this celebrity finance drama sorted. Jay Cutler is definitely not happy. His ex-wife, Kristin Cavallari, recently made some public comments about their money after their divorce. And the former NFL star had quite a bit to say about it.
“Let’s think about this logically,” Cutler, 42, explained on a recent episode of his “Take It Outside” podcast. “We were married for about seven years. We have three kids. Anyone can see how much I earned in the NFL. It’s public record. You can check my contract year by year for my full 12 years playing. When people get divorced, each person hires a lawyer. Then they go to court, where a judge makes decisions.”
Cutler argued there isn’t a single judge in Tennessee who would approve a divorce agreement allowing him to keep every dollar he earned during their marriage. He pointed out that he was once the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. He famously signed a seven-year, $126 million contract with the Chicago Bears.
Cutler and Cavallari, 38, first announced their split in 2020. Their divorce was finalized two years later in 2022. They share three children together: Camden, who is 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9. The exact financial details of their divorce settlement have not been made public.
Cavallari’s comments, which sparked Cutler’s reaction, came from a June episode of her own podcast. She was talking about how she funded her lifestyle brand, Uncommon James. Cavallari stated she owns the company “100 percent.” She said it “never” received outside money. She also stressed that Cutler had nothing to do with creating it. Cavallari even claimed that Uncommon James brings in “about $50 million a year” in revenue.
“I never received a single penny from my ex-husband,” she added during her podcast. “I didn’t get anything from our divorce. So let’s make that perfectly clear. Thank you.”

Cutler directly referred to Uncommon James during his August 15 podcast discussion. He argued that it was “marital property.” He said this because Cavallari used funds earned during their marriage to pay for the company. He called Cavallari’s earlier comments “irresponsible.” He also pointed out that she actually received “a ton of bills” during the divorce, not “not a penny.”
“I think it’s irresponsible. I think it’s almost slander,” Cutler continued. “To suggest that no money was shared during the marriage, and that both people didn’t receive anything, is crazy. It’s completely false. It truly is. I have a divorce judgment. I have a document signed by the judge, which is like 67 pages long. It clearly shows the breakdown of the financial figures.”
While Cutler wouldn’t go into the exact numbers, he promised his listeners it was “definitely not zero.” He confirmed that the amount was “without a doubt” enough for Cavallari to live comfortably.
Cutler wrapped up the conversation by saying the whole situation was “completely unnecessary.” He especially found it frustrating that he had to address it publicly. “There comes a point when it’s simply not true,” he concluded. “Very false.”
