Israel Strikes Near Al-Shifa Hospital, Kills 5 Al Jazeera Journalists

The cost of reporting from a conflict zone just grew heavier. An Israeli attack near a major hospital has tragically cut short the lives of five journalists and photographers from Al Jazeera. They were simply doing their job, telling the world what was happening.

Al Jazeera television reported these deaths on August 11, 2025. The attack happened near the main entrance of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. The team was inside a media tent when it was hit. This incident was part of a larger strike that killed a total of seven people.

Among those lost from Al Jazeera were Anas al-Sharif, a journalist, and Mohammed Quraiqa, a journalist and photographer. Ibrahim Zaher, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammed Noufal, an assistant, also died in the strike. These individuals were crucial to bringing news from a dangerous area.

The Israeli military has acknowledged the death of Anas al-Sharif. However, they claim he was not just a journalist. They stated he was a leader in a Hamas combat unit. The military accused him of being involved in firing rockets at Israeli civilians and soldiers. This claim adds a complicated layer to the tragedy.

Journalists face extreme risks trying to cover these events. The Committee to Protect Journalists has been tracking the grim numbers. Their records show at least 186 journalists have died since Israel’s military operations began in Gaza in October 2023. Each name represents a voice silenced and a perspective lost.
