Hindu Groups Demand Ban on ‘Khalid Ka Shivaji’ Film Over Shivaji Portrayal

A new Marathi film, ‘Khalid Ka Shivaji,’ is set to hit screens on August 8. But before its big debut, it’s already causing a stir. A heated debate has erupted around the movie, drawing strong objections from various groups.

A local Hindu organization based in Mumbai has formally requested the Censor Board to ban the film. They claim it misrepresents the true history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a revered historical figure. This demand has intensified the discussion surrounding the movie.

Why the Storm?

The Pune-based Hindu Mahasangh has sent a letter of protest to both the Censor Board and the film’s creators. Anand Dave, the organization’s president, stated that the movie shows Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as a secular ruler. He argues that this portrayal goes against the leader’s actual identity. Dave also made it clear that if the film is not banned, his group will hold protests outside movie theaters.

Anand Dave has asked all cinemas in Pune to avoid showing the film. He also issued a warning: if the movie is screened in rural areas, his organization will go there. They plan to launch awareness campaigns about the true history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Hindu Mahasangh’s Stance

The Hindu Mahasangh also claims that the film is twisting historical facts. They believe Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj belongs to the Hindu and Maratha communities. For them, a title like ‘Khalid Ka Shivaji’ is disrespectful to his heritage and unacceptable.

Behind the Camera

The film was directed by Raj More. ‘Khalid Ka Shivaji’ tells the story of a Muslim boy. He learns about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through his own life experiences. The film aims to offer a fresh look at history. This different viewpoint is exactly what has sparked all the arguments.

This ongoing dispute has kicked off a major cultural and political discussion. The filmmakers say they are just trying to present history from a new angle. However, the protesting Hindu organizations feel the film insults historical facts and deeply held sentiments.
