The latest Steam hardware survey results, released just this past Sunday, July 3rd, for the month of July 2025, are shaking things up for PC gamers. It looks like big shifts are happening in the world of computer components.
AMD has hit a major milestone, now powering over 40% of the CPUs used by gamers on Steam. Meanwhile, NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 5070 has quickly become the most popular graphics card from their “Blackwell” series among surveyed players.
Let’s talk about processors first. The “red team,” AMD, now holds a whopping 40.39% of the CPU market share on Steam. This is their highest point in almost two decades. They gained 0.74 percentage points from June. Intel, on the other hand, saw its share drop by 0.75 points, falling to 59.52%. A big reason for AMD’s recent success, especially under Dr. Lisa Su’s leadership, is their 3D V-Cache processors. Chips like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D offer top-notch performance and great value for gaming.
RTX 5070 Steals the Show in Graphics

When we look at graphics cards, the RTX 5070 is clearly leading the pack among NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series cards in the survey. It holds 0.99% of the market, almost doubling its presence since April. This new card has even outpaced models like the RTX 5080, which sits at 0.57%, and the RTX 5070 Ti, with 0.55%. The RTX 5070 showed the biggest monthly growth within the entire family. Its success comes from a sweet spot: good performance, efficient power usage, and a reasonable price. Overall, the RTX 50 series now accounts for 3.69% of all GPUs used on Steam.
But what about AMD’s new graphics cards? Oddly, their RDNA 4-based models, like the Radeon RX 9000 series, haven’t shown up individually in the Steam survey yet. This likely means they are below the 0.15% usage threshold. It suggests that adoption of the Radeon RX 9000 line is still quite limited. Perhaps there aren’t many available, or maybe many gamers are still waiting to buy them.
Overall, the survey paints a clear picture. Gamers are increasingly trusting AMD for their CPU needs. At the same time, the RTX 5070 has quickly become a favorite among those looking for a new-generation graphics card that offers good value. Meanwhile, Intel and AMD’s latest Radeon RDNA 4 GPUs are working hard to catch up in this shifting market.
