There was a time when the mere mention of Bloober Team working on a Silent Hill game would make fans groan. The Polish studio, known for its psychological horror titles like Layers of Fear and The Medium, faced a mountain of skepticism. Many players simply didn’t believe they could handle a beloved classic like Silent Hill 2.
Jacek ZiÄ™ba, a Bloober Team member and director of their upcoming game, Cronos: The New Dawn, recently spoke about this challenging period. He explained that the team was fully aware of the negative reactions. The first trailers for the Silent Hill 2 Remake certainly didn’t help, drawing continuous criticism from eager fans. It was a tough spot to be in, even for a team with a solid background in the horror genre.

But then, the Silent Hill 2 Remake launched. Despite its shaky start, the game’s quality began to speak for itself. It proved to many that Bloober Team could deliver a powerful horror experience. This success brought a wave of newfound confidence to the studio.
"We don’t feel like underdogs anymore after Silent Hill was released," ZiÄ™ba told PC Gamer, as reported by Videogameschronicle.com. He noted that the journey for Silent Hill has never been simple for the broader audience. "There was a lot of criticism like, ‘Oh no, Bloober is making this game? It’s going to fail.’" He described the immense difficulty for the team to stay strong and pour their hearts into the project, even when public opinion was against them. "And we proved others wrong, which is great."

Even with this new wave of self-assurance, ZiÄ™ba admits that the pressure hasn’t gone away. If anything, it’s shifted. Now, they feel the need to deliver another hit, proving their capabilities a second time. The team is dedicated to making sure the remake of the first Silent Hill game meets the highest possible standards.
The Silent Hill 2 Remake is currently available on both PlayStation 5 and PC.
