Arouca’s squad builders have been busy. They recently sorted out their midfield needs. New players Mateo Flores and Lee Hyunju joined the team. With that job done, the club’s focus has now fully shifted. Finding a new central defender is their top priority, as Record has learned. The club is pushing hard to strengthen this part of the squad.
This push makes sense when you look at the team. Two defenders, Chico Lamba and Galovic, have left the club. Galovic’s contract simply ran out. This means coach Vasco Seabra’s current group of central defenders is small. Only Popovic, Jose Fontán, and Matías Rocha remain. Of these three, Jose Fontán is the only player who kicks with his left foot. Our newspaper gathered more information on what the coach wants. His wishes match the plans of the Wolves’ sports management. It turns out the foot of the new central defender does not matter. The team is open to either a left-footed or right-footed player.
