How the PMWC 2025 Tournament Works
The tournament is set up in three main stages. It all leads up to the final on August 3. The first stage is the Group Phase, running from July 25 to July 27. Each of the three groups will play 12 matches. This makes for a total of 18 games across the board. The top eight teams from this phase move straight to the Grand Final. The other 16 teams get another shot in the Survival Stage.
The Survival Stage is set for July 29 and 30. This is the last chance for teams that didn’t make the cut in the first phase. They’ll play 12 games, six each day. Only the best eight teams from this stage will earn a spot in the final. The remaining eight teams will be out of the tournament.
The Grand Final takes place from August 1 to August 3. The 16 qualifying teams will play 18 more matches. The last day of the final introduces the “Smash Rules.” This special scoring system shakes things up. It demands top-tier performance to claim the ultimate title.

Smash Rules Explained
The Smash Rules add a unique twist to the Grand Final.
- Teams play normally until one team hits a special target score. This target is called the Match Point.
- The Match Point is figured out this way: it’s the score of the first-place team after the 12th match, plus 10 extra points.
- Once a team reaches this Match Point, they become eligible to win the championship.
- From that point on, the first eligible team to get a “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” (WWCD) will be crowned the champion.
- A maximum of six matches will be played under these rules. If no eligible team secures a WWCD, the team with the most points at the end of the final match wins the tournament.
Big Money on the Line: The Prize Pool
The PMWC boasts a total prize pool of $2.98 million. This money is split across the different stages of the competition.
- The Group Phase offers $1 million in prize money.
- The Survival Stage has a prize pool of $280,000.
- The biggest share, $1.7 million, goes to the Grand Final winners.
This huge payout highlights the growing financial stakes in mobile esports. It also draws in the best talent from around the globe. The next few weeks will be full of intense action as teams fight for their share of this impressive sum.
