Kevin Chamorro has officially landed at Rio Ave, signing a four-year deal that ties him to the club until June 2029. The Costa Rican goalkeeper wasted no time, heading straight to the team’s training camp in Quiaios, a town near Figueira da Foz, to join his new teammates.
This move signals a clear intent from Rio Ave. Chamorro, 25, is seen as both a present option and a long-term investment. He will compete with Polish keeper Cezary Miszta for the starting spot. The club also views him as a strong backup, especially if the current first-choice goalkeeper from last season leaves during the summer transfer window.
Chamorro is no stranger to European football. Last season, he played for Estoril on loan from Deportivo Saprissa. He featured in five matches during his time there, playing in the top league and the Portuguese Cup.
Rio Ave announced the transfer with clear satisfaction. They confirmed reaching a final agreement with Club Deportivo Saprissa for Chamorro’s permanent move. He now joins the team’s goalkeeping lineup, which also includes Antzelo Sina.
The 25-year-old is a full international for Costa Rica, with 11 caps for his country. He also played for various youth national teams, showing his talent from a young age. Before coming to Europe, Chamorro played for San Carlos and Carmelita in Costa Rica, in addition to Deportivo Saprissa.
Chamorro brings a winning spirit and valuable experience. He has won the national championship in Costa Rica and also lifted the Supercup there. Individually, he was named the best goalkeeper in Costa Rica three times. His experience goes beyond domestic leagues, including matches in the CONCACAF Champions League, Copa América, Gold Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, and CONCACAF Nations League.
At the training camp, Chamorro has already linked up with his fellow countryman and national team colleague, Aguilera. This familiar face should help him settle into his new surroundings. Rio Ave extended a warm welcome to their new keeper.
