Reality TV fans tuning into Bravo might see a familiar face missing from “The Valley” next season. Jax Taylor, a longtime fixture in the Bravo universe, has decided to step away from the show after its second season. The news first surfaced through entertainment news outlet Us Weekly.
The 46-year-old reality star shared his reasons in a private statement on Wednesday, July 16. Jax explained that the past year has been very tough. After many open talks with his team and the show’s producers, he chose not to return for the next season of “The Valley.”
Jax stated that he needs to focus on important things right now. He mentioned his sobriety, his mental well-being, and co-parenting his son, Cruz. He stressed that taking this time is crucial for him to become the best version of himself, especially for his 4-year-old son.
Jax and his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, share Cruz. The couple, known to fans from “Vanderpump Rules,” married in 2019. Over five years later, they both admitted to having marriage problems. Brittany, 36, confirmed she moved into a different home. She officially filed for divorce in the summer of 2024, which happened while “The Valley” was filming its second season. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason.
As the couple worked through their separation, Jax voluntarily entered a rehabilitation center to address his mental health issues. Viewers watched Jax and Brittany’s ups and downs throughout the second season, which premiered in April.

Executive producer Alex Baskin spoke to Variety recently about the show’s approach. He explained that their job is to tell the complete story. This means showing everything that happened, including the tougher parts. Baskin said that if they didn’t show the full picture, they would be hiding what truly took place. He added it would deny Brittany a chance to share her experience. He believes giving space to the whole story, including both Brittany’s and Jax’s perspectives, is not the same as supporting someone who may have caused harm.
Baskin mentioned that the show aims to tell stories responsibly and fairly. He also wants it to be entertaining and real, even when facing “darker” aspects.

In a statement to Variety, Jax’s representative shared an update on his sobriety journey. Jax recently marked 200 days without alcohol or cocaine. He described it as a long path that he continues to walk while working on his mental health. Back in March, Jax openly discussed his struggles with addiction during an appearance on Alex Baskin’s “Hot Mic” podcast.
The Season 2 reunion episode of “The Valley” was filmed in May. The finale is set to air on July 22. The cast also includes Danny Booko, Nia Sanchez, Kristen Doute, Janet Caperna, Jason Caperna, Jesse Lally, and Michelle Saniei, among others.
Fans have been wondering about who might return for the third season of the series. Baskin told Variety that decisions are still being made. He noted that the show will likely look different next season, though he wasn’t sure exactly what that would mean.
The producer mentioned that no one on the show has a guaranteed spot. He added that changes have often been made because of someone’s behavior. Baskin emphasized that they don’t want to bring together people who wouldn’t spend time together in real life. Such situations can become tiring and difficult to watch for an audience.
“The Valley” airs on Bravo every Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. You can also stream past episodes anytime on Peacock.
