The countdown to TV’s biggest night officially started this week. The nominees for the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards were revealed on Tuesday, July 15.
The Television Academy brought out some familiar faces for the big reveal. Harvey Guillén, known for What We Do in the Shadows, teamed up with Running Point star Brenda Song. They joined Cris Abrego, the Television Academy President, live from the Wolf Theatre. This special event took place inside the Academy’s Saban Media Center. Fans could also stream the announcement online. In a bit of a plot twist, two nomination categories got an early reveal. These names popped up on CBS Mornings earlier the same day. It added a fun, unexpected moment to the big announcement.
Fans already knew who would be hosting the main show. The Television Academy announced back in April that comedian Nate Bargatze would lead the 77th annual ceremony. This marks his first time taking on the Emmy stage. The big event will happen at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Bargatze, 46, shared his excitement. He said it was a "huge honor" to host such an important awards gala. He also mentioned he’s "more than excited" to work with CBS. Their goal is to "create a night families worldwide can enjoy." Cris Abrego praised the choice. He called Bargatze "one of the most popular comedians." Abrego noted his "outstanding and hilarious humor." He added that Bargatze "connects deeply with multi-generational audiences." The Academy is thrilled to "use his unique vision" to entertain viewers.
Looking back, last year’s ceremony saw a family affair. Father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy co-hosted the 2024 Emmys. That night, Shōgun swept the drama awards. Baby Reindeer was a big winner in the limited series categories. Meanwhile, The Bear and Hacks took home many comedy statuettes.
The stage is set for another memorable night. You can mark your calendars now. The 2025 Emmys will air live on CBS. Tune in Sunday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET, coast-to-coast. Below, find the complete list of this year’s Emmy nominees. Let the predictions begin!
