Long-standing drama between Bella Thorne and Charlie Puth has flared up once again. The actress recently accused the musician of sparking a "hate train" against her. Her reason? She claims she refused to be intimate with him.
Thorne, 27, made this sharp comment on Friday, July 11. She posted her thoughts in the comments section of an entertainment Instagram account. The post was about Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall saying she would "never" want to work with Puth again. "Yeah, I mean… he lied to everyone about me and started a hate train," Thorne wrote. "All because I didn’t want to… sleep with him." Representatives for Puth have been contacted for their statement on this matter.
A Blast from the Past: The 2016 Fallout
This isn’t the first time Thorne and Puth have had public disagreements. Their brief romantic link goes back to December 2016. Puth, 33, and Thorne were seen together at the Miami Jingle Ball. During the event, Puth even sang to Thorne while on stage.
However, things quickly turned sour. Puth took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Thorne publicly of being unfaithful. In a series of tweets, which he later deleted, Puth claimed Thorne had not ended her relationship with her ex, Tyler Posey. He said this happened before she started her short-lived romance with him.
"I can’t believe what I’m reading," Puth wrote at the time. "No one should have their heart broken like this. I’m not going to be in the middle of it." He didn’t mention Thorne by name in those tweets. But he did apologize directly to Posey, making it clear who he was talking about. "I don’t know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn’t be treated this way," Puth explained. "She told me she wasn’t with him anymore. This is all new to me."
Thorne quickly hit back at the accusations on X. She denied cheating. She also explained that a Paper magazine article published that week had old information from before her breakup with Posey. "Ty and I broke up more than two weeks ago. Charlie and I ARE NOT DATING. We are friends," she wrote. "That article was written a long time ago. Charlie and I were just hanging out. He saw an old interview and got upset. But instead of writing to me to ask, he posted it on Twitter."
Moving On (Mostly)
Both Thorne and Puth have since moved on in their personal lives. The "Trainer" actress shared her engagement to Mulberry founder Mark Emms in May 2023.
Puth, meanwhile, tied the knot with Brooke Sansone in September 2024. The wedding took place in Montecito, California. Puth shared a heartfelt poem on Instagram to announce their marriage. "I love you, Brooke… I’ve always loved you," the poem read. "With you, I am my best self. I promise to love you every day of this life and even more when we pass to the next. Brooke Ashley Sansone, and now you will be Brooke Ashley Puth. Thank you for making me the happiest man in the world. It has always been you."
