Betis Loans Goalkeeper Guilherme Fernandes to Valladolid with Purchase Option

It’s a familiar story in the world of football. A talented young player, looking for a chance to shine, makes a move to find regular playing time. That’s exactly the script for Guilherme Fernandes, the promising Portuguese goalkeeper. He’s heading to Real Valladolid on a loan deal from Real Betis.

The news broke recently, confirmed by Real Betis themselves on July 9, 2025. The agreement includes an option for Valladolid to buy Fernandes outright. This move comes right after Betis extended Fernandes’ contract, tying him to the club until 2027. It shows Betis still has faith in his long-term potential, even as he seeks experience elsewhere.

Fernandes first joined Real Betis for the 2023-24 season. He arrived initially on loan from E. Amadora, then made the move permanent. However, his time with the Andalusian club was spent entirely with their B team. He never managed to break into the senior squad, making this loan crucial for his development.

His path through football has been quite a journey. As a youth player, Fernandes developed at several well-known Portuguese clubs. He spent time at Nacional, Sporting (during his junior years), Belenenses, and Benfica. Later, as a senior, he played for Amora before moving to Estrela da Amadora. Even there, his appearances were mainly for the U23 and B teams.

Now, with Real Valladolid, who compete in the Spanish Second Division, Fernandes gets a fresh start. This opportunity could be a turning point, offering him the chance to prove himself at a higher level of senior football. It’s a big step in his career as he chases first-team action.
