Get ready to hear some big numbers from the world of mobile tech. Qualcomm, a major chip maker, seems set to break some speed records with its next big smartphone chip. We are talking about the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. This new chip will likely debut at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, happening from September 23 to 25, 2025.
Word from Digital Chat Station, a well-known tech insider on China’s social media platform Weibo, hints at what’s coming. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 has reportedly hit speeds of about 5.0 GHz in tests. There’s even a special “For Galaxy” or “Leading Version” that was pushed to an impressive 5.3 GHz.
However, Digital Chat Station added a word of caution. These super-high speeds are mainly for testing the chip’s core design. They don’t fully show how the chip will perform every day or how it will handle power. So, while the numbers are exciting, we should remember they’re still in the lab.
Even so, hitting speeds over 5.0 GHz is a massive step up. Remember the first Snapdragon 8 Elite chip from 2024? Its main Oryon CPU core topped out at 4.32 GHz. The special “For Galaxy” or “Leading Version” of that chip reached 4.47 GHz. That made it the fastest chip for smartphones at the time. Apple’s M4 chip, found in the 2024 iPad Pro, also holds a top spot for tablet speeds, running at 4.40 GHz.
What else is new inside the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2? It reportedly uses a second-generation Oryon CPU. This means it should be about 25% more efficient. The graphics chip, called Adreno 840, is also getting an upgrade. Its cache memory is jumping from 12MB to 16MB. This change could make graphics render up to 30% better. Think smoother games and crisper visuals.
Early tests of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 on Geekbench, a popular benchmark tool, show promising results. The chip scored over 4,000 points in single-core tests and more than 11,000 points in multi-core tests. This is a clear improvement over the first Snapdragon 8 Elite, which scored around 3,100 and 9,800, respectively.
Other chip makers are also bringing their A-game. MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, for example, has a main CPU core running at 3.23 GHz. Samsung also just revealed its Exynos 2500 chip, which features a Cortex-X925 core hitting 3.3 GHz. The race for faster, more efficient mobile power continues to heat up.
