MotoGP: Lorenzo Predicts Clashes Between Marquez and Bagnaia

Jorge Lorenzo, a five-time world champion, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming MotoGP season. As a commentator for Dazn and producer of his podcast ‘hard the vita’, Lorenzo remains passionate about motorcycles. He had a notable career, winning two 250cc championships in 2006 and 2007, and three MotoGP championships in 2010, 2012, and 2015. Lorenzo was also a teammate of Marc Márquez at Repsol Honda in 2019 and has experience with the official Ducati team from 2017 to 2018.

When asked about his analysis of the current MotoGP season, Lorenzo noted that there are two clear favorites: Marc Márquez and Francesco Bagnaia. He believes that these two riders have the best motorcycles and will likely dominate the championship. However, Lorenzo also mentioned that there could be some surprises from private pilots, such as Bezzecchi, who performed well two years ago. Additionally, he thinks that Aprilia and KTM would need to improve significantly to become serious contenders.

Regarding Marc Márquez’s chances of winning his ninth title, Lorenzo stated that it’s difficult to put him as the favorite above Bagnaia, given that Bagnaia has been performing well. However, Lorenzo believes that Márquez is still very ambitious and will not give up until the last round, which could lead to many battles and clashes between the two riders.

Lorenzo also commented on Pedro Acosta’s situation with KTM, saying that he sees Acosta struggling for the title along the way. He compared Acosta’s situation to that of Andrea Dovizioso in 2017, who was not expected to fight for the title but ultimately did. Lorenzo thinks that Acosta could be the pilot who improves the most in terms of driving and could make things difficult for Bagnaia and Márquez if he had the same weapons.

When asked about Jorge Martín’s injury and his chances of winning the championship, Lorenzo said that it’s a significant setback for Martín and will make his season very difficult. He believes that Martín is practically ruled out of the fight for the championship.

Lorenzo also discussed the possibility of allies for Marc Márquez and Bagnaia, saying that Álex Márquez and Franco Morbidelli could potentially play a role in certain circumstances. However, he noted that the championship is long and that consistency is key. He also mentioned that other riders, such as Fabio Quartararo and Raúl Aldeguer, could surprise in some circuits.

Finally, Lorenzo commented on Honda’s situation, saying that they showed some positive signs in the preseason. However, he believes that it’s still early to tell if they will be able to fight for the championship, and that they need to see if the changes they made will have a lasting impact.
