Sanjay Dutt’s Jail Term: Sheeba’s 9 Month Care for Maanayata During Pregnancy

Sanjay Dutt’s life was turned upside down when he was sentenced to five years in jail for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blast. He was convicted under the Arms Act for possessing illegal weapons, and his world came crashing down. But what’s remarkable is the story of how his friend, actress Sheeba Akashdeep, stepped in to support his wife, Maanayata Dutt, during a very vulnerable time.

It was between 2009-2010, and Maanayata was pregnant with twins. Sanjay, who was granted bail several times during his sentence, knew he wouldn’t be able to be there for his wife during this critical period. That’s when he turned to Sheeba, his co-star and close friend, for help. He asked her to take care of Maanayata for nine months, and Sheeba, being the loyal friend that she is, agreed without hesitation.

Sheeba has spoken about this experience in an interview with Pinkvilla, remembering how Sanjay called her before he went to jail. He told her that Maanayata was alone and asked her to take care of her. Sheeba would visit Maanayata every day, making sure she didn’t feel lonely during her pregnancy. In fact, Sheeba spent nine whole months with Maanayata, being her rock and support system.

Looking back, Sanjay has spoken about his jail days, remembering how his friends from the industry, including Anna, Akshay, Ajay, and Shah Rukh, came to visit him outside Thane Jail. But despite their support, he knew he had to face his sentence head-on. He decided to make the most of his time in jail, using it to cook, read scripture, and work out. It was a tough six years, but Sanjay emerged from it a stronger, wiser person.

A Test of Friendship

Sheeba’s actions are a testament to the strong bond of friendship that exists in the film industry. When Sanjay needed someone to lean on, she was there, without question or hesitation. Her selfless act of taking care of Maanayata during her pregnancy is a beautiful example of how friends can come together to support each other in times of need.

A Time of Reflection

Sanjay’s experience in jail was a time of reflection and growth for him. He could have easily given in to despair, but instead, he chose to use his time wisely. He learned to cook, read, and work out, and even found solace in spirituality. His story is an inspiration to anyone who’s facing tough times, a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there’s always hope for a better tomorrow.
