Pellicer Urges Málaga to Strengthen and Advance in LaLiga Hypermotion Next Year

Málaga continued their knack for drawing games with yet another stalemate against Burgos, pushing their total to 12 draws in the 19 matches played so far in the 2024-25 season. The white-and-blues have experienced every type of draw imaginable this season—high-scoring thrillers, goalless borefests, late comebacks, and missed opportunities. With 24 points on the board, Sergio Pellicer’s side is nearly halfway to achieving their season objective.

The 12 draws not only mark a new club record for the first half of a season but also edge Málaga dangerously close to Badajoz’s all-time Segunda División record of 24 draws, set during the 1999-2000 campaign. The current tally also matches the club’s personal best for draws in a single season under Pellicer back in 2020.

Málaga’s draw pattern this season is intriguing. The most common scoreline has been 0-0, occurring seven times. They’ve also notched up three 2-2 results against Racing de Ferrol, Granada, and Cádiz, with two additional 1-1 draws rounding out the set.

This draw-heavy run isn’t just a Spanish phenomenon. Málaga currently leads all teams in Europe’s top leagues (across both first and second divisions) when it comes to draws. Their closest contenders are Juventus, with 10 draws, and West Bromwich Albion, who have recorded 11.

Pellicer, reflecting on his team’s performance, expressed mixed emotions: “In my opinion, the points are not in line with what the team is showing. I think we should have more points, and that is where the frustration lies. The most important thing is our identity. We are newcomers to the category despite the history of our club.”

Looking ahead, the Málaga coach emphasized the importance of the upcoming fixtures: “We have two exams left to finish the year. I believe it’s these small details that are preventing us from aiming higher. We must reach 50 points as soon as possible, and these next few days are crucial for our objective.”
