Very hard blow to Movistar Koi Phoenix in the Super League, as they’re staying out of the top 4 they had aspired to, continuing their quest for the title. It’s worth noting that the team completely changed their academy vision in 2025, shifting away from developing talent and instead signing five new pieces to secure their first title in League of Legends.
But, unfortunately for Raqo’s team, they haven’t performed well at virtually any moment of the split, only showing glimpses of their best level in some BO1 matches – though they did convincingly beat Lua Gaming in the playoffs. Today, Barça surpassed them despite not being favorites and not being in their best form this winter.
Movistar Koi sinks outside the top 4
The truth is, Movistar Koi has been on the back foot the whole series. After failing to deliver in the first map, Barça took control of the second. However, the culés had a few inexplicable moments, which gave Movistar Koi a glimmer of hope and put them back in the series.
With the score tied, it seemed like Movistar Koi Fénix could take the series, especially after tracing a complicated map where they were, on paper, the favorites. But, in reality, Barça dominated them in a map where the cikes were clearly superior, and Movistar Koi Fénix couldn’t do anything to stop Legolas’s Kai’sa, the protagonist of the third map.
The Movistar Koi Academy thus ends its first 2025 Split in Super League Domino’s, showing a face that’s far removed from what we expected from a roster built not just to win the competition but to be a strong contender. In a word, it’s been disappointing.
Barça plug in 2025
The culés are another team that had high expectations this year, especially after being finalists last summer and having a roster with new pieces that were expected to deliver immediate results. However, like Movistar Koi, Barça has struggled to find its best form, going through a critical phase.
The team worked on a Bootcamp in Barcelona, which seems to be paying off. Jandro’s team has already shown improvement, despite losing to the Heretics, and they were superior to UCAM last week in a Bo3 match. The key pieces of this team are starting to perform, and Czekolad, a veteran who was expected to do more in the regular phase, is getting better and better.
The Catalans can be a team to watch in the fight for the title, although they still need to take it up a notch to become favorites. In the coming weeks, Barça will be working to take that necessary step forward, and next Tuesday, they’ll face off against the giants.
