Bahidorá Music Festival Evolution: A Decade of Music and Art

Bahidorá is more than a music festival: it is an experience that combines music and sounds of avant-garde, art, and nature in a dream place. Located in the magical park Las Estacas, in Morelos, this event has managed to consolidate as a reference within the cultural and musical scene in Mexico, attracting music lovers and free spirits everywhere.

Something that distinguishes Bahidorá is its musical curatorship, which year after year is reinvented with an amazing mixture of genres ranging from electronics, jazz, and hip-hop, to cumbia and Afrobeat. Over the years, the festival has received international renowned artists along with emerging talents that have found in this space a platform to connect with new audiences.

Those who have attended at least once know that Bahidorá is not just an event; it is an annual ritual that reminds us of the transformative power of music and the magic of sharing it in an environment that invites us to reconnect with the essential. That is why they have managed to hook so many people with this concept.

Throughout more than a decade of life, the festival has evolved without losing its essence. It has become a sanctuary where music, nature, and community coexist for a weekend, making each edition a unique chapter. That is why we will review how Bahidorá has changed over time.

Thus Bahidorá has evolved over the years

Bahidorá 2013

Bahidorá’s story began in 2013, with the idea of assembling a festival in which music, art, and party could live together in one of the most spectacular natural spaces in our country: the Las Estacas Park. This is how on February 16 of that year the initial carnival was armed. In that first edition, acts such as Coco Rosie, Gold Panda, Astro, Allah-Las, Soul Clap, Chris Malinchak, Jacques Greene, Joakim PillowTalk, Plastic Plates, I Can Chase Dragons, Slow Hands, and Dangerous Summer stood out.

Bahidorá 2014

For the following year and before the success of its debut, Bahidorá returned to stay in the stakes, its home since it appeared. This is how February 15, 2014 became a day of very good music, in which they included very interesting names that put together a pachangón of those. Imagine that on that occasion there were several rifered bands and artists, among which they stood out Kaytranada, Tokimonsta, Bomba Estéreo, Caloncho, Bob Moses, and Wild Belle.

Bahidorá 2015

Definitely, in the 2015 edition of Bahidorá, the thing rose to the level in terms of lineup, so much so that the Pachangón was for the first time of two days. And we do not exaggerate, and they put together a cartelazo of those with artists and bands for practically all tastes. Although yes, we were very hurt that Mac Demarco canceled his presentation days before the festival, in what would be his debut in Mexico.

Bahidorá 2016

Since 2016, Bahidorá settled as a two-day festival of good vibes and great musical acts within the stakes. And although the poster of that edition was perhaps not as spectacular as the previous year, they included very raffled acts that were worth watching live and put together a tasty ambient during that weekend. To give them an idea, bands and artists were presented as Badbadnotgood, Rhye, The Internet, Black Gallo Sound, Century, Destroyer, the Baston Band, Sotomayor, Thomash, Konstantin, Deadbeat, Acid Pauli, Quantic, Teen Flirt, Ivan Smagghe, Karma Kid, Baba Stiltz, Saschienne, Bondax, and more.

Bahidorá 2017

Perhaps, this is one of the most remembered editions of Bahidorá. And it is not for less, if on that occasion they sent a poster that flew our heads. Especially because in the stakes there was the first presentation (and one of the few) of Mac Miller in Mexico. However, the Lineup brought other impressive names. To give them an idea of how the matter was, Kali Uchis, Mad Professor, Princess Nokia, Jubilee, Systema Solar, Wet Baes, Mayer Hawthorne, and more also appeared, making this year of the festival one of the most memorable.

Bahidorá 2018

The thing remained more or less the same with Bahidorá in 2018. Again, the stakes were the headquarters of a pachagón of those in which for two days, the public gave everything and spent it wonderfully with a lot of acts that ripped like the greats. Acts like Kamasi Washington, Ariel Pink, Nathy Peluso, Floorplan, Mount Kimbie, Axel Boman, Shigeto, Jayda G, Fred P, Andrés Gamiochipi, Chanchra via circuit, zombies in miami, the waters waters, among others, were in charge of putting very good music on that weekend.

Bahidorá 2019

For its seventh edition, Bahidorá decided to make a very large leap. We say it because it went from two to three days of activities, and since then it remains in the same format (something that very few festivals in our country have achieved). And of course to celebrate it, they gathered a lineup cool for the occasion. Acts like Blood Orange, Roosevelt, Honey Dijon, The Soul Jazz Orchestra, The musicians of José, Louie Vega, Meridian Brothers, Mitú, Larry Heard Aka Mr. Fingers, nightmarares on wax, and noa sainz were responsible for musicalizing that weekend in the stakes.

Bahidorá 2020

2020 was complicated for everyone with the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many festivals and concerts had to postpone or cancel for obvious reasons. However, Bahidorá was one of the few musical events that could be carried out in that year. And they wore the poster of that edition, because they brought names of the size of Sister Nancy, Erykah Badu, Channel Tres, Goldlink, Masters at Work, Pantha du Prince, David August, Theo Parrish, are Break Pera, among others.

Bahidorá 2022

Things with COVID-19 were still complicated in 2021, which is why Bahidorá did not arise that year. We had to endure until 2022 for the carnival to return to the stakes. And what the wait was worth it, because they gathered a lineup of those to return as it should: through the big door. Kings of Convent, James Blake, Koffee, Negro Ice Cream, Petite Amie, Affection Group, DJ KOZE, Chez Damier, Greentea Peng, Moodymann, Vacation (Caloncho’s project and David Aguilar), India Jordan, and more took care that Bahidorá’s return was huge, reminding us how much we missed this festival.

Bahidorá 2023

After returning to stay, Bahidorá did not lower his arms in 2023. That edition, the festival presented a sign that, perhaps did not have names of bands and artists so striking, but together and shifted his hand, those acts were undoubtedly worth paying not only the ticket, but also for the complete experience within the stakes. In that edition, we could see Little Dragon, John Talbot, Kokoroko, Hiatus Kaiyote, Danilo Pressow, Budaya, Mildlife, Lido Pepper, Brothers Gutiérrez, Sama ‘Abdulhadi, Stimming, Soichi Terlada, Yendry, Stavroz, and more, they put us at the Mood Chill throughout that weekend.

Bahidorá 2024

In 2024, Bahidorá flew the fence, because they brought Africa Express for the first time (The musical group commanded by Damon Albarn), which played for five hours in a row and included guests such as Bonobo, Fatoumata Diawara, Django Django, Camilo Lara, Femi and TJ Koleoso by Ezra Collective, Nick Zinner, Seye Adelevan, Poté, Moonchild Sanelly, Luisa Almguer, Texcoco’s witch, Joan As Police Woman, and many more. As if this were not enough, the poster of that edition included Flying Lotus, Yaeji, Tainy, Vanessa Zamora, Mabe Fratti, Los Mirlos, and Tayrell, just to mention some names.

Bahidorá 2025

Of course, Bahidorá 2025 promises a lot, as it is already a custom and even a tradition, once again the organizers wore with a poster in which you can find at least one act that will turn you very hard. To give an idea, this lineup includes names such as Jeff Mills, Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso, Kaytranada, Floating Points, Ezra Collective, Rusowsky, Folamour, Pappoz, Esg, Laura Itandehui, Angélica García, Reyna Tropical Diles that do not kill me, and more, who promise to give us an unforgettable weekend.
