The European Artistic Skating Championship concluded its competitive aspect with the free program event in the male individual category. Spain was represented by Tomás Guarino, who, at 25, participated in his fourth consecutive European championship. The Barcelona skater started from the 21st position, which he achieved on Thursday in the short program. During the free program, Guarino had an irregular performance. He successfully landed the triple axel, the most difficult jump in his routine, which had been a challenge for him during the warm-up. He also completed the triple flip + double toe, triple salchow, and triple lutz in sequence with double axel, as well as the triple flip + double toe. However, he struggled with a triple lutz, where he suffered a fall, and had trouble with the triple loop, where he had to use his free leg for support. Guarino’s three pirouettes, sequences, and choreographic steps were executed correctly, and his free program, set to music from Western movies, received artistic component scores ranging from 6.54 to 6.79.
Guarino received a score of 122.57 for his free program, bringing his total to 190.23 points. This allowed him to move up two positions and finish 19th, a result similar to his performance last year, when he also finished 19th. The top three positions were taken by Lukas Britschgi of Switzerland, who won the gold medal with a total of 267.09 points, Nikolai Mela of Italy, who took the silver with 262.61 points, and Adam Siao Him Fa of France, who finished third with 257.99 points. Britschgi delivered the best program in the final to claim the gold medal. Siao Him Fa, who was the favorite to win, ended up in third place. Mela’s performance earned him the silver medal, ahead of Siao Him Fa.
