Elderly Driver Causes Shock Upset to German Cycling Team in Mallorca

Incident Details

A recent incident occurred in Palma de Mallorca, where several members of the German cycling team were hit by an 89-year-old driver. The cyclists involved included renowned athletes such as Benjamin Boos and Tobias Buck-Gramko, who are medalists in the 2024 World Cup, as well as other notable cyclists like Bruno Kessler, Max-David Briese, Moritz Boomstein, and Louis Gentzik.

Circumstances of the Accident

The accident took place on the MA-19A road, heading towards Llucmajor, around 10:30 in the morning. According to reports, the 89-year-old driver failed to maintain a safe distance and collided with the group of cyclists at a considerable speed. Following the incident, the driver underwent a drug and breathalyzer test, which yielded negative results.

Condition of the Cyclists

The injured cyclists, ranging in age from 19 to 27, received immediate medical attention on the scene from the SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) before being transferred to nearby hospital centers. Although the German Federation has stated that their condition is not serious, some of the cyclists have sustained various fractures. Fortunately, one member of the group escaped the accident unharmed.
