Australia Star Spinner Sidelined Just Before Sri Lanka Showdown Begins

The Australian cricket team is set to tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series against the hosts. The matches are scheduled to start on January 29. However, the team has already suffered a setback even before the squad announcement. One of its star players, Matt Kuhnemann, has been injured.

Injury Occurrence

The injury occurred during a Big Bash League match on Thursday night, where Matt Kuhnemann was playing for Brisbane Heat. He got hurt while fielding and had to leave the field due to pain. The injury was to his right hand and appeared to be quite serious.

Following the match, teammate Marnus Labuschagne expressed concern over the injury. He mentioned that Kuhnemann’s thumb did not look good, and they were truly saddened by the news. Kuhnemann was initially set to join Labuschagne and the rest of the team at a pre-Test training camp in Dubai on Sunday.

Impact on the Team

The Australian team will be in need of skilled spin bowlers for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Matt Kuhnemann’s injury could be a significant loss for the team. Nevertheless, the Australian team has already secured a spot in the World Test Championship final, making this Test series somewhat of a practice run.

As a result of Kuhnemann’s injury, Cooper Connolly, an all-rounder, may have an increased chance of making his debut in the series.
