BCCI Crackdown: What 10 New Rules Mean for Indian Cricketers

Restructuring the Indian Cricket Team: New Guidelines and Disciplinary Measures

The Indian cricket team has been facing challenges in terms of performance and discipline. Following a disappointing 3-1 defeat in the 5-match Test series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced 10 new rules to address these issues. These guidelines aim to improve the team’s overall performance, promote discipline, and ensure that players prioritize their duties.

Key Provisions of the New Guidelines

The BCCI has implemented the following measures to restructure the team and promote a more disciplined approach:

  • Compulsory Domestic Cricket Participation: All players are required to participate in domestic matches to be eligible for selection in the national team and to remain in the central contract.
  • Family and Personal Staff Restrictions: Family members and personal staff will not be allowed to stay with players during foreign tours, except for a maximum period of two weeks.
  • Full Attendance at Practice Sessions: All players must remain for the entire duration of scheduled practice sessions.
  • Limited Luggage Allowance: Players are restricted from carrying extra luggage during foreign tours and domestic series.
  • Ban on Personal Staff: Players are no longer allowed to bring personal managers, chefs, assistants, and security personnel on tours.

Additional Measures to Promote Discipline and Focus

To further promote discipline and focus among players, the BCCI has introduced the following measures:

  • No Advertisements During Series: Players are not allowed to shoot advertisements during any series to maintain their focus on the game.
  • Family Travel Plan Policy: A family travel plan policy has been implemented to ensure a balance between player and team commitments.
  • Attendance at Official Events: Players are required to participate in official BCCI events to fulfill their contractual obligations.
  • Post-Series Travel Restrictions: Players are not allowed to return home early after the end of a match or series; they must stay with the team until the tour is completed.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Players who fail to comply with these guidelines may face disciplinary actions, including:

  • Reduction in central contract fees
  • Ban from playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL)

These measures aim to promote a culture of discipline and commitment within the Indian cricket team, ultimately improving the team’s performance and representation of the country in international cricket.
