Actor Sonu Sood has been making headlines with his latest film ‘Fateh’, where he plays the lead role. In a recent interview, Sonu Sood shared some interesting insights about his experience working on the film ‘Dabangg’. He revealed that he was initially offered the role of Chulbul Pandey, but it eventually went to Salman Khan.
Sonu Sood’s Initial Involvement in Dabangg
Sonu Sood explained that ‘Dabangg’ director Abhinav Kashyap had approached him with the script, and he was excited to play the role of Chulbul Pandey. However, things took a turn when Arbaaz Khan informed him that Salman Khan was interested in the film. Sonu Sood recalled, ‘Abhinav got a message saying ‘yes’, and later it came to light that it was Salman’s number, and he had agreed to play the role.’
The Role of Chhedi Singh
After Salman Khan took over the lead role, Sonu Sood was offered the role of villain Chhedi Singh. However, he initially refused, citing that he couldn’t understand the character. Sonu Sood said, ‘Many people, including Arbaaz Bhai, tried to convince me, but I refused. They kept searching, but they couldn’t find the confidence that anyone other than me could carry it out.’
The Item Song ‘Munni Badnaam’
Sonu Sood had set some conditions for playing the character of Chhedi Singh, including changing the character and featuring in an item song. He revealed that the song ‘Munni Badnaam’ was initially supposed to be filmed with him and Malaika Arora. However, Salman Khan liked the song and demanded an entry in it, shifting the focus from Sonu Sood to Salman Khan.
Sonu Sood shared that Abhinav Kashyap informed him about Salman’s entry in the song, saying, ‘I have brought one good and one bad news. Good news about a scene, and Salman’s song is being taken, this is bad news.’ Sonu Sood expressed his disappointment, saying, ‘This is my song, how can he interfere like this?’ Despite the changes, the song ‘Munni Badnaam’ went on to become a massive hit, with Salman Khan’s unique style and dance steps being widely appreciated.
