Transfer Negotiations Underway for Gonzalo Montiel’s Return to River Plate
Seville and River Plate are nearing an agreement for the transfer of Gonzalo Montiel back to his former club. The deal is estimated to be worth around 4.5 million euros, with the potential to rise to five million euros if certain objectives are met.
River Plate had initially offered three million euros for the right-back, but this was rejected by Seville’s Victor Orta. However, after reassessing the situation and considering the wishes of their coach, Marcelo Gallardo, River Plate increased their offer to a figure that has been accepted by Seville.
During his time at Seville, Montiel has played in 81 official matches, scoring three goals and providing six assists. He was part of the team that won the UEFA Europa League in the 2022-23 season and was later loaned to Nottingham Forest for a season.
Two Homegrown Players to Take Over Right-Back Position
With Montiel’s departure imminent and Jesus Navas’ retirement, the right-back position at Seville will be filled by two youth players, Carmona and Juanlu. The club does not currently plan to sign a new right-back in the winter market.
Seville is focusing on finalizing the exits of players such as Ship and Iheanacho, and has recently signed Ruben Vargas. The club is also searching for a new striker and possibly a left-back, depending on their financial situation.
