Motorcyclist Dodges Taxi But Hits Pregnant Woman on Sidewalk

A dramatic accident unfolded in the Ituzaingó neighborhood of Montevideo on Saturday evening, leaving a pregnant woman injured and sparking an investigation into the incident.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of José María Guerra and Francisco Echagoyen. A taxi driver made a sudden U-turn, prompting a motorcyclist to swerve and avoid a collision. However, in doing so, the motorcyclist lost control and mounted the sidewalk, striking a pregnant woman who was walking with her family, including several young children.

Victims’ Conditions

Fortunately, the pregnant woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, and she received treatment at the Hospital de Clínicas. The children who were with her suffered minor scratches, while the motorcyclist also escaped serious injury.

Investigation and Next Steps

The Scientific Police conducted a thorough investigation at the scene, gathering evidence and witness statements. The findings will be used by the Prosecutor’s Office to determine the responsibilities of the two drivers involved, who are currently cooperating with the authorities.
