Evenepoel’s Soudal Quick-Step Departure Sparks Uncertainty and Concern

Recovery and Future Plans

Remco Evenepoel, the Olympic time trial and road champion, is currently recovering from a broken collarbone. Despite his absence from the Soudal-Quick Step team presentation in Calpe, he addressed the media via a telematic conference.

Aiming for the Tour de France

Evenepoel expressed his desire to recover fully and be in top condition for the Tour de France, his primary goal for the year. He underwent medical tests in Herentals and acknowledged that it will take time to regain his fitness.

“It’s been a challenging period, and I’ve been away from my bike for several weeks,” Evenepoel said. “I’ll be patient and wait until I feel 100 percent again.”

Overcoming Setbacks

Despite the setback caused by his fall in December, which resulted in a fractured collarbone, Evenepoel hopes to return to competition in April and be in perfect condition for the Tour de France.

“I promise you that I will return, and I will only focus on my main objectives,” he said. “It will take some patience, but I want to be ready for the Tour.”

Looking Ahead to 2025

Although the Tour de France will be his primary goal, Evenepoel’s program for 2025 is still uncertain. He hopes to return to the Ardennes classics and repeat his preparation from previous years, including training at altitude, the Dauphiné, and the Belgian Championship.

“My program is still to be defined,” he noted. As the winner of the 2022 Vuelta a España, Evenepoel will not participate in the Giro d’Italia, where Mikel Landa will be the leader.
