Badosa’s Adelaide Dreams Shattered in Round of 16 Upset

Recent Setbacks for Paula Badosa

Paula Badosa, the fifth seed at the Adelaide Open 500, suffered her second defeat of the season on Wednesday. She lost to Ashlyn Krueger, ranked 54th and a lucky loser in the previous round, with a score of 7-6(4), 6-7(4), and 6-2, in a match that lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes.

The physical toll of her previous match against Peyton Stearns, which lasted 2 hours and 42 minutes, seemed to affect Badosa’s performance. This loss prevents her from moving closer to the world top 10, with a current gap of 189 points from tenth place, held by Daniel Collins, who was also eliminated.

Ranking and Upcoming Tournament

Badosa’s current ranking means she will be the eleventh seed in the women’s draw, a one-position gain due to Czech Barbora Krejcikova’s injury withdrawal. Notably, Badosa is defending her third-round finish from the previous edition of the tournament.
