Despite being released in the year 2000, the story and songs of the film ‘Kya Kehna’ continue to captivate audiences. The film featured Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, and Chandrachud in lead roles. However, an interesting fact about the film’s casting has come to light.
Initial Casting Challenges
Director Ramesh Taurani revealed in an interview that he initially wanted to cast Salman Khan in the film instead of Chandrachud. However, the film’s production faced significant challenges, including a shortage of well-known actors.
Alternative Casting Options
Taurani also shared that Mukul Dev was initially cast in the film, but he failed to show up on the first day of shooting. As a result, the decision was made to cast Saif Ali Khan at the last minute.
Financial Constraints
The film was produced during a difficult time in the industry, following the murder of Gulshan Kumar. This led to a recession in the film industry, making it challenging for the film to secure a distributor.
Salman Khan’s Involvement
Taurani requested Chandrachud to leave the film, hoping to cast Salman Khan in his place. Although Chandrachud initially agreed, he later changed his mind after Taurani’s conversation with Salman Khan was leaked to the media. Salman Khan ultimately decided to respect Chandrachud’s commitment to the film and asked Taurani to proceed with the original cast.
