Magdeburg Accident Death Toll Rises to Six, What Went Wrong

A recent development in the aftermath of the December 20 attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, has led to an increase in the number of reported fatalities. A 52-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries in a hospital, bringing the total number of deaths to six.

Investigation and Response

Klaus Tewe, a spokesman for the Naumburg Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed the woman’s death, stating that she passed away as a result of the injuries sustained during the attack. Although the exact date of her death was not disclosed, it is reported to have occurred a few days prior to the announcement.

The attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market resulted in a total of 299 injuries, according to official figures. However, the German commissioner for victims, Roland Weber, reported a higher number of affected individuals, totaling 531. This includes not only those who were injured or lost their lives but also eyewitnesses, traumatized family members, and those who suffered economic losses due to the attack.

The Perpetrator and Aftermath

Taleb Al-Abdulmohsen, a Saudi citizen who had been residing in the state of Saxony-Anhalt since 2006 and worked as a doctor, was arrested immediately following the incident. He is currently in preventive detention awaiting trial.

The six reported fatalities include a nine-year-old minor and five women between the ages of 45 and 75.
