Elgoibar Cross Country Event Sees Repeat Champions

Berihu Aregawi and Beatrice Chebet have successfully defended their titles at the Elgoibar cross country event. This achievement comes after their impressive start to the season, which has seen them claim victories at the Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre Vallecana and the Nassos Course, with Chebet setting a new 5K world record.

Men’s Category

Aregawi secured his win in the final stretch, outpacing Rodrigue Kwizera and Samuel Firewu, who had been his closest competitors for several kilometers. Aregawi crossed the finish line with a time of 29:34, two seconds ahead of Kwizera. Firewu took third place, while Spain’s Adel Mechaal finished fourth.

Women’s Category

Chebet dominated the women’s category, setting the pace from the start. Although she waited for the initial kilometers to pass before making her move, she eventually broke away from the group. Only Niyomukunzi, Wudu, and Carolina Robles were able to keep up with her pace.

Chebet led the final kilometers, while her pursuers battled for the remaining podium positions. Chebet successfully defended her title with a time of 25:48, followed by her compatriot Wudu in second place, 42 seconds behind. Niyomukunzi took third, while Carolina Robles finished fourth.
