Munar Falls Short Again in Hong Kong Semifinals Showdown

Jaume Munar Falls Short in Hong Kong Semifinals

Jaume Munar’s bid for a spot in the Hong Kong final came to an end on Saturday, as he lost to Alexandre Muller in a closely contested semifinal match. The Mallorcan tennis player, who was a finalist in Marbella in 2021, was unable to replicate his best result on the circuit, falling to Muller in three sets, 4-6, 7-6(5), and 6-4.

Munar, 27, was competing in his fifth semifinal and initially seemed to have the upper hand, calming his nerves more effectively than Muller. However, the French player, ranked 67th, eventually gained control of the match, forcing a tiebreaker in the second set and maintaining his advantage until the end.

The semifinal scenario shifted in Muller’s favor after Munar lost his serve in the sixth round of the second set, allowing Muller to level the score at 3-3. From there, Muller took charge, winning the tiebreaker and ultimately the match.

Munar’s loss means that only two Spanish players, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Carlos Moyá, have competed for the Hong Kong title since the tournament’s inception in 1973. Munar will now turn his attention to the Australian Open in Melbourne, his next stop on the circuit.
