Athletic Unleashes Full Force in Logroño Showdown

Athletic Club is set to demonstrate its dedication to the Cup competition, as evidenced by the team’s upcoming match against UD Logroñés. Despite their opponent being from the Second Federation, the lions will not make any concessions and will instead field a strong lineup.

Manager Valverde has announced that 22 players from the first team will travel to Logroño, with no reserve team players included. The only exceptions are Sancet, Galarreta, and Yeray, who will remain in Lezama due to injury.

The rest of the first team members will depart from the red-and-white facilities at 11 a.m. on the designated bus. The squad includes Unai Simón, Agirrezabala, Gorosabel, Vivian, Paredes, Vesga, Berenguer, Iñaki Williams, Nico Williams, Djaló, Guruzeta, Núñez, Lekue, Yuri, De Marcos, Martón, Unai Gómez, Herrera, Nico Serrano, Jauregizar, Prados, and Adama.

Notably, Padilla is not among the summoned players, having recently renewed his contract with Athletic until 2029. He is expected to begin 2025 on loan to another team, with the Pumas of Mexico being a strong contender.

Impressive Streak

Athletic Club boasts an impressive record in the Cup, having won 25 consecutive rounds in single-match ties. The last time the lions suffered a defeat in a round-robin tie was in October 2003 against Gimnástica Torrelavega.

This streak is a testament to the team’s commitment to the competition, and manager Valverde’s experience in the 2003 setback has likely contributed to his decision to field a strong lineup against UD Logroñés.
