Search Efforts Continue for Missing Argentinean Man in Punta del Este
The search operation for the 30-year-old Argentinean man who went missing in the waters of Punta del Este has entered its next phase. While the nighttime search is limited to land, the sea search has been suspended until daylight returns, around 5:30 am.
Shift in Search Strategy
According to Sebastián Sorribas, the prefect of Punta del Este, the search is now focused on locating a lifeless body. Given the extensive search efforts in the initial days, the search area will be expanded.
“As we move into the second day of searching, we need to adjust our strategy. We’re expanding the search area, and our focus has shifted from searching for a person alive to searching for a body,” Sorribas explained.
Circumstances of the Disappearance
The young man, Franco Toro, disappeared on January 1 while attempting to rescue a woman who was being swept away by strong currents towards the rocks. Two other men who jumped into the water to assist were rescued by members of the Prefecture, who had earlier managed to save the woman.
However, Franco Toro was unable to escape the strong waves and was lost from sight. He had arrived in Punta del Este to work for the season.
