Oviedo Exit Operation Sparks Concerns and Raises Key Questions

Transfer Developments at Oviedo

The long-awaited transfer of Masca to Oviedo has finally been confirmed. This move marks the beginning of the Carbayón group’s efforts to create economic space for necessary reinforcements in the winter market. The primary objective is to secure a defensive reinforcement, with the possibility of a second addition if feasible.

Masca’s departure from Oviedo comes after losing prominence under Luis Carrión. During his time with the club, he played 54 games and scored eight goals. Eldense will not pay a transfer fee, but Oviedo will retain a percentage of the player’s rights in case of future sales.

The next challenge for Oviedo is to facilitate the transfer of Carlos Dotor. The club has made it clear to the player that he is not part of Javi Calleja’s plans. Finding a new destination for Dotor may be complicated due to his high transfer record from Real Madrid’s youth squad. As a result, Oviedo may need to contribute to the transfer costs to make room in their squad. Albacete is currently the most likely candidate to take over his services.

Expected Arrivals

Oviedo’s primary objective is to strengthen their defense. However, signing center backs has proven to be challenging due to the solidity of their current players, including Dani Calvo, David Costas, and Oier Luengo. Many potential signings have rejected proposals due to the difficulty in displacing these players from the starting lineup.

As a result, Oviedo is exploring alternative profiles, such as César de la Hoz from Valladolid. De la Hoz could provide reinforcement in the midfield and potentially fill in at center back if needed. His economic conditions may be suitable for Oviedo’s salary cap.

If Oviedo can create more space in their budget, they may also consider signing a right back. Lucas Godfather is currently on the exit ramp, and with his contract ending on June 30, he may seek a new proposal in the coming weeks.

The team has resumed training, with Santi Cazorla working with his colleagues. The only absentees were the injured Jaime Seoane and Fede Viñas. Santiago Colombatto did not complete the session but is expected to be available for the derby against Sporting on the 11th at 9:00 p.m. at the Carlos Tartiere.
