Investigation Underway After New Year’s Celebration Turns Violent
A violent incident marred New Year’s celebrations in the city of Durazno, leaving three young people injured by gunshots.
Circumstances of the Incident
The incident occurred around 4 am at the Churchill Avenue motorcycle track, where a large crowd of approximately 1,500 young people had gathered to celebrate the start of the new year.
According to eyewitnesses, the shots were fired from a motorcycle with two occupants, which was seen behind some trees near the celebration area.
Condition of the Injured
The three injured individuals, aged 22 and 24, are reported to be out of danger. The injuries were caused by shrapnel from the projectile, rather than direct gunshot wounds.
One of the young men sustained a pelvic injury and was taken to a nearby sanatorium for treatment. The other two injured individuals, a 22-year-old man and woman, were transported to a medical facility by their own means.
Police Response
Despite having a police presence in the area, the explosions were not immediately heard due to the loud music and large crowd.
The police are currently investigating the incident, with a focus on identifying the perpetrators and their motives.
