Loeb on Dacia: Is the Team Ready for the Challenge Ahead

The Road to Dakar Victory

Sebastien Loeb, a nine-time world champion, has been tipped by Jacky Ickx, the legendary Belgian driver and Dakar Classic ambassador, to win the Dakar Rally this year. Loeb has come close to achieving this feat on multiple occasions, finishing on the podium five times. This year, he is determined to make it happen.

When asked about Ickx’s prediction, Loeb smiled and said, “I’ve heard it, but I don’t know if it will happen. Of course, I would like it to, and I’ll do my best to make it a reality.” Loeb’s confidence in his abilities and his new Dacia Sandrider car is evident, but he is also aware of the challenges that lie ahead.

A Crucial Stage

Loeb believes that the 48-hour stage, which will take place on January 5 and 6, will be a crucial point in the rally. “It will be key to finish that stage,” he said. “If we do it and we are still in a good position for the general classification, I will be happy. I don’t particularly care about being in the lead at that moment, but rather continuing with options.”

Loeb is aware that completing this stage will not be easy, especially since it will be the first time he will be driving his new Dacia Sandrider car in a rally. “That stage in the first week without having experience with this car will be difficult because even with a slight problem, you can’t do anything,” he said. “You don’t have spare parts, and it would even be difficult to finish it.”

A Level Playing Field

Loeb believes that this year’s Dakar Rally is more open than ever, with several drivers having a good chance of winning. “It is difficult to name a favorite,” he said. “There are several pilots with options, with good cars, experience, good co-drivers. I think that there is no clear favorite this year.”

Loeb’s confidence in his abilities and his new car is evident, but he is also aware of the challenges that lie ahead. With the 48-hour stage looming, Loeb knows that he will have to be at the top of his game if he wants to make it to the finish line first.
