Amazon Expands Logistics Services in India
Amazon is strengthening its presence in India’s logistics sector with the introduction of a rapid commerce service. This new service promises to deliver groceries and other essential items within 15 minutes or less. Additionally, the company has officially launched Amazon Freight, a national transportation service that offers truckload freight options within and outside cities, leveraging its established logistics network.
Amazon’s Growing Presence in India
As the sixth-largest marketplace in India, Amazon generates annual sales of over $6 billion. The company faces stiff competition from Zomato-owned BlinkIt, Swiggy, and Nexus-backed Zepto. To stay ahead, Amazon is focusing on expanding its logistics services to cater to the growing demand for convenience and speed in the Indian market.
Amazon Shipping: Efficient Last-Mile Deliveries
Amazon Shipping is another key service that has been optimized for last-mile B2C deliveries. Launched in 2021, this service covers over 14,000 zip codes, guaranteeing committed delivery dates and offering an efficient pickup experience. According to Samir Kumar, Country Manager, Amazon India, “Our strategy has always been based on ‘Selection, Value, and Convenience’, and we aim to build a large and profitable business in India.”
The Rise of Quick Commerce in India
The quick commerce (q-commerce) model, which promises delivery within 10 to 15 minutes, has struggled to gain traction globally. However, India is proving to be an exception, with companies like Swiggy and Flipkart launching their own fast commerce services. Amazon’s decision to introduce its rapid commerce service in India is a response to the growing demand for convenience and speed in the market.
Amazon’s Late Entry into Quick Commerce
Despite the opportunities, Amazon has been slow to adopt the q-commerce model in India, entering the market after its competitors. However, the company’s decision to launch its rapid commerce service now is a testament to the dynamism of the Indian market, where demand for convenience and speed continues to grow.
