Arsenal have stepped up their efforts in the transfer market and shown keen interest in Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong. Renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed Arsenal’s attention to the young defender, revealing that Frimpong has a £34m release clause in his contract and is likely to move next summer.
Romano spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside and stressed that Arsenal were not alone in their interest in Frimpong. Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also expressed interest, although the latter may have cooled its interest after signing Joao Cancelo in the summer. At just 22 years old, Frimpong has emerged as one of Bayer Leverkusen’s standout players under Xabi Alonso this season.

Arsenal are looking for a right-back for the future
Although Arsenal already have solid right-back options such as Jurrien Timber, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, Mikel Arteta could consider signing Frimpong as a more attacking option to strengthen his squad. The player’s £34 million release clause makes him an attractive option for the Gunners.
“Frimpong has recently been scouted by Arsenal and Bayern Munich as well as Barcelona before signing Joao Cancelo on loan from Manchester City in the summer,” confirmed Romano. “After some fantastic performances this year he is certainly a very admired player in Europe this season.”
With the prospect of a move in June, Frimpong is sure to continue to attract interest, with several clubs having followed his form at Leverkusen. The Frimpong transfer saga will undoubtedly be a hot topic in next summer’s transfer window.
