COD will remember Nelly Manuel Doñé with various acts

The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) called on the National Sports Federations, associations, clubs, leagues and athletes in general, to participate in the events this Saturday for the fourth anniversary of the death of Professor Nelly Manuel Doñé.

The activities will begin at 10:00 in the morning, with an act at the tomb of the deceased Olympic sports leader in the Cristo Redentor cemetery.

A COD statement indicates that a delegation will be leaving at 9:30 in the morning, from the Mauricio Báez Foundation.

At 6:00 in the afternoon, a mass will be celebrated in memory of Professor Doñé in the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish, located on Mauricio Báez street and Moca corner, in the Villa Juana sector.

Doñé was one of the veteran Olympic leaders who provided outstanding services to the cause of sport and Olympism at the national and international levels.

Doñé was born on July 15, 1944 and passed away at the age of 75. He was a physical education teacher and Social Assistance director of the Presidency in 1989.

In the Dominican Olympic Committee, the late athlete held various positions in the executive committee, including secretary in the period 1982-90; vice president from 1990-94 and member in management from 1994-98.

In addition, sports adviser to the Executive Power in 1996; former president of the Dominican Cycling Federation. In that same year he served as administrative undersecretary of the Secretary of State for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.

The late professor was a veteran promoter of the development of Olympism and sport both nationally and internationally.

Doñé was also part of a group of men and women who founded the Mauricio Báez club 50 years ago, where he was an active member.
