Juan Puello Herrera would go to his last period

The Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation held an extraordinary assembly yesterday in which it unanimously approved the creation of new management bodies.

The figure of the Board of Directors, an executive secretary and a Finance and Monitoring Commission were introduced.

The presidency of the Council will be determined on a rotating basis each year and the first to occupy the position will be Vitelio Mejía, president of the Dominican Baseball League.

And as a neuralgic point during the assembly, it was agreed that Juan Francisco Puello Herrera will continue as commissioner for the next four years. (2023-2027).

Vitelio Mejía, president of Lidom, told Listín Diario that this will be Puello Herrera’s last term as commissioner, and that from then on those appointed to the position will complete a period of 2 years.

Puello Herrera was consulted by Listín about this statement and pointed out that the only thing stipulated in the Assembly was the change in the term of office, which will go from 4 to 2 years from 2027.

But, he added the following: “although that can be decided later, I do not think I will continue.”

The current commissioner has held the position since 1991.

The figure of the Board of Directors will be made up of the presidents of the four member leagues (Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico) and by the Executive Secretary of the Confederation, who will have the right to speak, without voting.

The Executive Secretary will work directly with the Commissioner and in his absence, he will be able to occupy his position. Antonio José Herrera, president of Tiburones de la Guaira, in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, will fill the position.

The Finance and Budget Monitoring Commission will also be made up of representatives of the four member leagues, and its first presidency has fallen to Mr. Carlos Manrique, president of the ARCO Mexican Pacific League.

Finally, it was also established that the commissioner will have the decisive vote to break the tie in matters that do not have to do with his appointment, such as substitution, surrender, discharges, among others.
