Chris Froome wants to revive old laurels at 38 years old in the Tour de Francethe race that has given him the most joy in his career and where he managed to climb up to the top of the podium in Paris four times.
In an interview with the French portal Direct VéloFroome reviewed how he has faced this 2023 season in which he has once again had to deal with numerous physical problems. “I have had small physical problems since the start of the season and a tendon problem in April. I had to revise my initial plan and give up some beautiful races like the Volta a Catalunya and the Tour of the Alps. But I was able to run the Tour de Romandie and I felt that I was rediscovering my legs little by little. The last six or seven weeks I have dedicated to training and I have worked well, without problems. Everything seems to be going in the right direction.
A Froome who, despite the very serious fall he suffered in the Dauphiné 2019, still hopes to continue in the peloton at 38 years old. “We’ll see what can happen, I don’t set limits and I keep working hard to improve. In energy data I have advanced month after month and week after week after that big drop. As long as I continue to have positive signs and can find an interesting level, I will stay motivated.”
Froome also confessed that, one more year, his big goal for this year is the Tour de France, where he will try to be the protagonist and win a stage. “The Tour de France is always the big goal. It is the race in which I have lived my greatest emotions, the race in which the best runners in the world are measured in their best form. It is clear that I will not go to the Tour to contest the general classification, but if I could fight to win a stage, like last year in Alpe d’Huez, that would be great. I will go to the Tour with the aim of winning a stage victory, and that motivates me”.
