The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated in honor of the poet Qu Yuan, (340 BC – 248 BC). After being exiled and facing corruption at court, he committed suicide by throwing himself into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month of that year, BC. When the villagers learned of his death, they went out in boats to search for his body and throw food into the water to keep fish and sea creatures away from his body.
