Amazon launches food payments in India

Amazon continues to advance in the Indian market, after closing his food delivery business last year. Now you are testing with meal payments. The company has begun a limited introduction of restaurant bill payments using Amazon Pay.

This initiative is taking place in selected areas of Bangalore with a limited number of restaurants. Users can go to Amazon Pay > Dining in the Amazon app to make payments with credit/debit cards, online banking, UPI, or Amazon Pay Later. Thus, currently Amazon India is offering discounts on bill payment in almost all the restaurants on the list.

The company has not commented on whether they are testing this in any other cities. Amazon India spokespeople did not respond to a request for comment.

Big food delivery companies Zomato and Swiggy are offering restaurant payments and discounts as they try to attract more customers. Earlier this month, Zomato launched its own UPI service in partnership with ICICI bank for a faster checkout and bill payment process.

This new Amazon experiment is one way to attract customers in India. There are huge challenges in this country, so it is not easy to reach the smallest cities in the country, according to a report from the investment firm Sanford C. Bernstein. The e-commerce giant claims that 85% of its customers are from tier 2/3 cities/towns.
