Western Digital’s My Cloud has been down for 5 days, but there is a solution

The service Western Digital MyCloud to access your personal files over the Internet has been officially out of order for five days.

Last Sunday, April 2nd, the data storage manufacturer announced that it was experiencing a service outage affecting several products, including My Cloud, My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo, My Cloud OS5, SanDisk ibi It is SanDisk Ixpand Wireless Charger.

Western Digital issued a statement on April 3 that said essentially the same thing, as well as a press release clarifying that it was “implementing proactive measures to protect its business operations, including offline systems and services.”

Today, with the network still down, the company indicates that My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo, and SanDisk ibi (SanDisk’s smart photo manager) owners canThey can still access files stored on their devices with a local access feature.. It’s already “enabled and functional” for My Cloud OS5 products.

Owners can enable local access on any Windows or macOS computer connected to the same network as the affected device. Users will have to create a specific local access account, which seems a rather complicated process.

Note that the device apparently needed to be set up before the failure, so new owners will have to wait.

All these problems are the result of a “network security incident” what allowed an unauthorized party to access data from the company’s systems, according to the April 3 announcement. MyCloud customers are more and more restless as the days go by and they keep complaining that they are unable to access the data stored on their devices.
