It seems that inflation reaches Christmas shopping. According to the latest study of the leading e-commerce in flash sales veepeespending is maintained compared to last year, but the number of products purchased decreases. 50% of the population will allocate between €200 and €500, while 30% will spend more than €500 and the remaining 20% will spend less than €200. Despite the fact that this is the same distribution of spending as last year, those who claim to buy the same number of gifts are 65%. Only 6% will buy more products than last year, but those who perceive that they will increase their spending almost double to 11%.
In this context, many are looking for promotions: 1 in 3 Spaniards have taken advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday discounts to do your Christmas shopping. This represents 7% more than the previous year. Instead, only 5% of the population waits until the last minute.
Omnichannel and fashion shopping
Veepee’s study shows that 64% of Christmas purchases will be online and, unlike other dates, with a very even use between mobile (54%) and computer (51%). Instead, just 16% of Spaniards affirm that they will use the tablet. The number of people who will go to the physical store to do their orders (69%) also stands out. In fact, face-to-face purchases will represent 36% of the total, after standing at 22% during the 2020 pandemic.
Regarding the shopping cart, fashion (74%) will be the queen followed at a greater distance from the accessories (45%) –with 18 points more than last year- and footwear (43%). The second most purchased category will be the electronics and technology (37%)while games and toys (36%) close the podium Other notable sectors are sport (32%), beauty (26%) and gastronomy (21%) in a time marked by family celebrations.
Christmas in a big way and with a sustainable component
According to the Veepee study, the Spanish enjoy and extend the festivities as much as possible. And it is that until 63% make gifts both at Christmas and for the Three Kings. In these celebrations you can not miss a lottery tenth (68%), grapes for the chimes (67%) or the tree and decorations for the house (66%). In addition, half of the population has a pantry prepared with nougat and a good or sparkling wine.
Sustainability is also an increasingly present trend. Up to 39% of the population affirm that this year they will try to celebrate a more respectful Christmas with the environment by planning meals for avoid food waste (60%) as the main action. 36% of the population will collaborate with charities and 23% will give sustainable gifts either for their recycled materials (11%)for being from second hand (7%) or made manually instead of purchased (6%).
