Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison spotted in New York

She’s not hiding

This would be striking, because if she’s actually in New York, she’s not hiding. Shortly after the implosion of FTX and Alameda Research, rumors spread that Ellison was trying to flee to Dubai. In principle, she would be safe there, because Dubai has no extradition treaty with the United States.

Twitter user and self-described “citizen journalist” Autism Capital was the first to share these photos. Autism Capital would have received the photos from an anonymous source. “A user claims he saw Caroline Ellison at Ground Support Coffee on West Broad in SoHo Manhattan at 8:15 in the morning. This means she is not in Hong Kong, but in New York,” said Autism Capital.

In response to the story, one Daniel Mentado (@dmentado) says he works at the coffee shop and confirms that it was indeed Ellison. Some people are surprised that Ellison is on American soil, given the possible legal ramifications that the collapse of FTX and Alameda Research may have for her.

Coffee shop near police station

It is striking that the coffee shop is a short 20-minute walk from the police station, as some Twitter users also report. It seems like at least Ellison isn’t afraid of anything, because she probably wouldn’t be doing this if she wasn’t. Of course, figures like Ellison also have to live until they hear more about the case, but it is strange.

Especially when you consider that Ellison and her associates have stolen billions of dollars in total. Wall Street Silver speculates that the only reason Ellison is back is in the possible explanation that she has a deal with the authorities. A deal that gives her immunity in exchange for enough evidence to bring in Sam Bankman-Fried.
