“Today it is still quite difficult to sell used cars online”

motorcycle is a platform specialized in the sale of used vehicles. It arose with the aim of leading the used vehicle industry, providing an environment of trust, security and value, facilitating access to the offer and contact between buyers and dealers through the digitization of all services and processes.

The used vehicle sector has made some progress in digitization, but it still has a long way to go to catch up with other sectors. Something that Marco Conde noticed a few years ago and motivated him to launch Motoreto.

Marco Conde, CEO and founder of Motoreto

Motoreto is a platform that was launched in June 2020 (yes, in the midst of a pandemic), to digitize the buying and selling processes of the used vehicle sector; Focused on both users and dealers. Because for Count the sector is beingquite slow in the digitization process and they are not responding to the needs of consumers who buy this type of vehicle”.

To digitize the process, Motoreto allows you to buy used vehicles completely online. Marco Conde, CEO and founder, He has explained to us what the purchasing process is like: “You enter the platform and select which car you want. To do this, you choose the characteristics that interest you such as: brand, model, price, mileage and you can provide other information, such as if you are going to give your car away or if you are going to want to finance it.”. Once you select all the features, the platform gives you in less than 2 minutes the 3 best offers among all the dealers that are registered with Motoreto. Afterwards, the consumer decides if he wants to buy it directly or if he prefers to contact the dealer.

In 2022, they calculate from the company that will manage around 20 or 30 thousand demands. And Conde explains that users “They are very heterogeneous, because they range from 25 to 50 years old and 60% of the buyers are men and 40% are women”.

How does Motoreto help dealers?

Today it is still quite difficult to sell used cars online” affirms us Count. The sale of cars online has evolved in recent years, but the used car sector faces great challenges to get closer to consumers through the online channel, because it is “a sector that has been very opaque and generated a lot of distrust to the buyer”. For this reason, one of the main objectives of Motoreto is to remove the sector label «suspicious“, something that the CEO of the company assures us is”very complicated”.

At Motoreto they work actively to eliminate the barriers that create friction in the process of buying and selling a used car. They are achieving this thanks to the introduction of tools that allow the user to do the entire commercial process that you do in a dealership or that you do physically, you can do it online. For example, they have introduced the possibility of making virtual visits to the dealer to see the car or schedule an appointment with the dealer.

We are putting technology at the service of dealers that helps increase their processes and their business” it states Count.

In addition, at Motoreto they not only help more traditional dealers, but also offer their services to dealers that have been born digitally, such as Autohero, Clicars, Heycar, etc.

Motoreto wants to continue helping dealers and, therefore, they are preparing to take the next step and help companies at a European level.

A sector with great challenges

The automotive sector since the pandemic is facing great challenges, especially due to the lack of microchips for the manufacture of vehicles and for other reasons, as he explains. Count: “Many brands have suspended their marketing in Russia, the price of fuels and raw materials (such as steel, aluminum, nickel or palladium, used in the manufacture of cars) continues to reach all-time highs, and delays are taking place and effects on the supply chain”. This has caused many dealers to start promoting the sale of second-hand vehicles as well.

To this situation we must add that in 2023 the «will inaugurate» Access restrictions to the centers of large cities (ZBE low emission zones) for cars with a gasoline engine over 20 years old or diesel over 15 years old. And, although it may seem that this promotes the demand for electric cars, the CEO of Motoreto confirms that this is not the case: “What we have noticed is people looking for car models that have EURO 6, which are much less polluting combustion cars”.

In addition, new consumers are presenting major changes in habits. Before, people buy a used car so that it will last as long as possible. However, now young people prefer to buy less old cars, because “They do not plan to have it for 10 years, but they want to use the vehicle for approximately 3 years and then change it for a more recent one”.

In short, the used vehicle sector is currently undergoing a process of change. However, until a few years have passed and thanks to companies like Motoreto the label of “distrust”, we will not see a complete digitization of the sector.
