San Juan will host the next Track Cycling World Championship in 2025

As part of the 2022 road cycling world championships, which are taking place in Wollongong, Australia, the International Cycling Union (UCI) held its 191st official Congress, with the presence of authorities from all the affiliated federations.

Representing Argentina was Mr. Gabriel Curuchet, President of the Argentine Republic Cycling Union. Among other relevant issues, the UCI confirmed the venues for the track and road world championships for the coming years. On the payroll confirmed by the president Mr. David Lappartient, Argentina was designated for the organization of the Track World Cup in the 2025 season.

The competition, historic for the country, will be held at the new Vicente Alejo Chancay velodrome, located in the City of San Juan. The sports complex is large. It is under construction and will be inaugurated in 2023.

Consolidation of the joint work carried out by the UCI, the Pan American Cycling Confederation, the Argentine Republic Cycling Union, the Argentine Track and Road Cycling Federation and the Government of San Juan.

Rise and positioning of Argentine cycling in America.

Selections, teams and cyclists from all over America will come to San Juan to perfect themselves sportingly and technically, with various activities related to cycling.

For the first time, Argentina will host a Cycling World Cup (the one in 2025 will be in the track modality).

It will be the fourth Latin American country to receive a track world championship. The predecessors are Venezuela, Uruguay and Colombia (2).

The Vuelta a San Juan (UCI Pro Series) and the new velodrome will be top-of-the-line benchmarks on the continent. Backed by other cycling competitions in the country (2.2) that will be official by the UCI in 2023: Giro del Sol in San Juan, Vuelta del Porvenir in San Luis, Vuelta a Formosa and Vuelta a Catamarca.

The last international competition of great importance held in the country was the Pan American Road Championship. Argentina hosted two editions in five years. Both were in San Juan, in the 2018 and 2022 seasons. The current Pan American champion is Emiliano Contreras from San Juan.

World cycling, especially American cycling, will set its sights on Argentina, which will occupy relevant positions at the international level, with the province of San Juan being the main protagonist of a fruitful path, which lies ahead for the development and growth of cycling in our country.
